Monstera 'Lime Banana' is a rare climbing Monstera with green leaves splashed with bright lime-yellow spots and streaks, an unstable variegation that makes each leaf unique. Adult leaves develop the cuts characteristic of the genus. It prefers strong indirect light, high humidity and a moss pole. A spectacular collector's piece for the aroid enthusiast. Care instructions A healthy Monstera 'Lime Banana' needs three essential things: good light, a support to climb and an airy substrate that does not stay waterlogged. Give it a moist moss pole and you will see the aerial roots grip it while the leaves grow ever larger and more deeply cut. Place it alongside other spectacular monsteras, such as Monstera 'Thai Constellation' or the delicate Monstera adansonii Variegata, to build an enviable collection. Light: strong, indirect light. The variegated areas need more light than an all-green Monstera to compensate for the reduced chlorophyll, but direct sun scorches the yellow patches. A bright position by an east window or a few steps from a filtered south window is ideal. Temperature: between 18 and 27°C. The plant develops best in constant warmth and is sensitive below 15°C; keep it away from cold draughts and frosty windows in winter. Watering: water when the top two or three centimetres of substrate have dried, avoiding both complete drying and excess water. Variegated areas are more prone to rot, so good drainage is essential. Humidity: high, ideally above 60%. A humidifier or a grouping with other tropical plants keeps the leaves healthy and encourages the development of aerial roots. Dry air causes brown margins. Substrate: very airy and free-draining - an aroid mix with pine bark, perlite, coconut fibre and a little charcoal recreates the loose soil of the tropical forest. Support: a moss pole or vertical support is essential. As it climbs, the plant produces ever larger, more deeply cut leaves, approaching its mature form. Feeding: in spring and summer, apply a balanced, diluted fertiliser every two to four weeks. In winter, reduce or suspend feeding. Propagation: through stem cuttings with at least one node and an aerial root. Cuttings that include a variegated portion preserve the pattern, a method by which collectors perpetuate rare plants.
